2026 Fall Convening

ABOUT

• September 24: Focus on advocacy and lobbying in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Preservation Action.

• September 25: Programming conceived by National Preservation Partners Network members and led by leaders from across the field, including sessions on hot topics in preservation law, local advocacy programs, annual giving campaigns, affordable housing, and more.

Fall Convening attendees will also enjoy:

• Thursday evening joint reception on Capitol Hill with National Preservation Easement Summit and National Preservation Summit attendees
• Tour of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, a 1972 Mies van der Rohe building that recently underwent a major renovation.
• Optional guided tour of Washington, DC’s Lafayette Square on Saturday, September 26th

ACCOMMODATIONS

Attendees are responsible for their accommodations. There is not an official hotel associated with the event. The venue is easy walking distance from the Metro Center and Chinatown/Gallery Place stops on the DC Metro, accessible by all Metro lines. Paid off-street parking is available at the venue.

9/24 THURSDAY

Advocating for Historic Places: Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill

Attendees will join National Trust Preservation Summit participants for a day of action on Capitol Hill— where attendees will meet directly with members of Congress and their staff to make the case for preservation as essential infrastructure for American communities. The day concludes with a closing reception celebrating historic preservation leadership and advocacy.

This is a unique opportunity to meet with decisionmakers at a critical time to advocate for preservation policy priorities. If you’re new to advocacy or Capitol Hill, don’t get overwhelmed! Members of the National Trust’s Government Relations team will equip you with resources, tips, and talking points to make the most of your meetings.

This is your chance to make your voice heard. Share the impact of your preservation work, highlight the needs of your community, and help get the support you need to continue making a difference.

Session Highlights

Join us for a full day of programming at First Congregational UCC in Metro Center, followed by a meet-up on the town in the evening.

Sessions will include:

• Affinity group breakout conversations
• Hot Topics in Preservation Law (Section 106 is at the top of the list!) with Cultural Heritage Partners
• Membership & Annual Giving Campaigns with Barbara O’Reilly of Windmill Hill Consulting
• Tour of the recently renovated Martin Luther King Junior Library, a Mies van der Rohe building
• Spotlight on the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund with Nakita Reed
• Preservation’s Role in the Housing Crisis, a panel with Donovan Rypkema of PlaceEconomics and Lauren McHale of The L’Enfant Trust
• Local Advocacy Programs with Rebecca Miller of DC Preservation League

9/26 Saturday

10:00 a.m. – Optional Tour hosted by Washington Walks. Visit historic sites of interest around Lafayette Square, including Lafayette Park and the White House (currently obscured from view), the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, St. recently-renovated John’s Church, Decatur House, and The Octagon House.
